 I wish I lived in a world where our phones were just for talk and text and I mean that. At the end of the first video you asked us to watch, the narrator mentioned that the advancement of technology would be an amazing thing as long as it continues to benefit humanity and is for the benefit of humanity. I genuinely believe we are beyond the point where the advancement of some technologies can be any more beneficial as much as it continues down the path of harmfulness. I truely cannot fathom a pro that outweighs the con of increased suicide rates amongst children.  Accessabililty is an amazing thing, dont get me wrong, however I think the over-accessibility to everything is leading to a lack of curiosity, engagement, and creating an entitlement in people that has never been seen before.       My Group’s presentation was focused on policies that are very grey area on whether or not they are doing more good than bad or more bad than good. My specific policy that I researched was vertical integration. Vertical Integration happens when a company takes over multiple parts of the suply chain of a product. There is forward integration; When a company own a middle part of production and extends their reach forward or towards the finishing of the product, And there is backwards integration; when a company owns a middle part of production and extends their reach backwards in production in the direction of the raw goods.  It works sort of like this: Backward integration: Forward Integration:     While the above diagram is an oversimplification of how vertical integration works, you can see the general idea of it.   One of the modern technologies that really caught my attention during the presentations was Netflix. I was old enough to have spent a large part of my childhood in and out of blockbuster. I remember when me and my brother would run up and down the isles just looking at all the movies and waiting for our dad to find a movie for us to watch that night. I also remember when our blockbuster closed and watched it tun into an Aldi's and it broke my heart. However, as an adult, I appreciate the convenience that Netflix provides as a service I pay for once a month and get unlimited streaming of whatever they have to offer. I didn't previously know that Netflix started very much so like blockbuster as an individual movie mailing service however the innovation of creating a first of its kind platform where you can stream straight from the site is stellar. (Opinion Piece)      With as much as is going on in the world and the numerous ways we can interpret and have opinions on events, it is quite astonishing that we only seem to see the most political, the most polarizing, and the most extremist views. Why is that?  Well, we've discussed a lot of this in class during both of the EOTO presentations - News media is all largely owned by the same companies. Since each of these companies tend to lean one way or another they are going to give whatever perspective is the majority for their audience so that they can continue making money. Polarization also works in favor of politicians. News becomes the most polarized around election seasons. My EOTO presentation was on technological advancement and impact that Google has had on society which is a pretty loaded topic to cram into a fairly short presentation. The impact of google and its consistent growth and advancement has been felt across the world in many ways. It has allowed information to become more accessable 

  I actually really enjoyed this movie. It reminded me a lot of the first communications fellows movie we watched at the beginning of the year called Coded Bias . It was about the biases of A.I. coding and the impact it has on an increasingly technologically advancing society. The film Age of A.I. discusses both the positive sides and the negative sides of the rapid advancement of technology and how it's being implemented in different parts of the world.  The most interesting part to me was learning about how they use A.I. and face recognition in China in order to maintain civility as well as to measure the credibility of of people. Applying for a loan is no longer something that has to do with your credibility on paper. It also take into account your past history, your facial expressions while you do it and even the percent your phone battery is at while you apply in order to measure an individual's credibility and responsibility.  It's kinda scary that even our faces, ...

 I am a black woman who has had the pleasure of growing up in DC and living in DC during the 2020 summer protests against police brutality in the wake of the senseless murder of George Floyd. I also am someone who has been the victim and knows many other people who became victims of police brutality during peaceful protests. Since I am decidedly fed up with the only discussion about the protest of this past summer in this class being the villainization of the few violent protesters (many of whom were right wing plants) and how well the proud boys did protesting, I will be discussing the ways in which law enforcement and state government have undermined these laws over the course of the George Floyd protest.  Note: Not all of the charges against the accused has reached a final verdict yet, however former Officer Derek Chauvin at this moment has been charged with second degree murder, second degree manslaughter and a recently reinstated charge of third degree murder as well....

During our Unit 4 lecture about the eight values of free expression as told through the lens of a bunch of white dudes with relatively minimal amounts oppressive experience through various points in history. I'm very curious to know how many people of prominent minority identity had a say about the values on this list. Any who, of the 8, I think I'm the least discomforted by the theory presented by Vince Blasi which states that we as the individual people are part of the checks and balances of the government. I like this law for the same reason I love twitter (See Post 1); Because the government will focus it's efforts on what we as the people keep buzzing about. But in a more traditional interpretation of this value it's important to analyze how the checks and balances of the government work and then view how the individual is bolstered by it. For this blog post, I was asked to learn and discus the inner workings of the United State Supreme Court. Before learning about this in class and now as I watch videos and read articles, I can almost say for certain that I knew next to nothing about the Supreme Court. I am aware that it is part of the judicial branch of government, that there is a Chief Justice in the Supreme Court, and that they are selective about the cases they take, however, that was about the extent of my knowledge. I can safely say that I am quite a bit more knowledgeable now.  First of all, what is the Supreme Court? The Supreme Court was created as one of the checks and balances of the government. In it's earliest stages, the Supreme Court was made up of 6 justices who served their lifetime and were generally obligated to take any case presented to them and hold circuit court twice a year.  This, however, is very different from how the supreme court works today.     For my first blogger post in Media Law and Literacy, I have been asked to discuss the sources I use to stay updated on news and information; I, however, am without a consistent source that I go to for news. I like to stay true to my generations identifier and that is being a social media junky. I stay up to date on the world through social media and more specifically, via twitter . I've been called silly many a time for using an app like twitter for my news, some saying it is unprofessional other saying it is unrepeatable but I challenge that idea by simply saying: Be smart about it. I love using twitter to learn about what's going on in the world because twitter tends to have a lot less sensorship than most American new outlets. Many American news outlets don't cover international news that doesn't have some sort of relevance or connection to America. Hiya! My name's Nic, Nice to meet you! I'm a Strategic Communications Major at High Point University, but I'm from a pretty big town in MD called Bowie, right outside of DC. I haven't figured out what my future holds yet, but I'm interested in learning about the power of media in this modern age and studying people in a cognitive and behavioral context. Outside of my classes I love being social! Whether that means hunting down the best frenchfries and ice cream places with friends, FaceTiming friends and family from back home or managing my social media, I find a lot of joy in feeling connected :) I am super excited to be taking Media Law & Literacy this semester and can't wait to be scared of the government and the internet after it.
